Candidate Qualifying

 
       
 
RESIGN TO RUN (SECTION 99.012, F. S.)
 
   

No person may qualify as a candidate for more than one public office, whether state, district, county, or municipal, if the terms or any part thereof run concurrently with each other, without resigning from the office he or she presently holds. The resignation is irrevocable.

   
         
   

The written resignation must be submitted at least 10 days prior to the first day of qualifying for the office he or she intends to seek. The resignation must be effective no later than the earlier of the following dates:

   
   

 

   
    (1) The date the officer would take office, if elected or    
   

 

   
   

(2) The date the officer’s successor is required to take office.

   
   

 

   
   

If no resignation is submitted 10 days out and a candidate qualifies for an overlapping term, the resignation is effective immediately.

CITY OF ST AUGUSTINE

   
   

The City Charter of St. Augustine requires any candidate to be a resident and qualified elector of the City of St. Augustine.  In order to run for office as a City Commissioner you MUST be a resident of the City of St. Augustine.

The City Charter also has a specific petition requirement for candidates to obtain ballot position.  Please contact the Supervisor of Elections Office for additional information.

   
         
   

CITY OF ST AUGUSTINE BEACH

   
   

This Proposition appeared on the ballot in the September 2004 Primary Election and was passed by the voters of St. Augustine Beach, effective upon passage.

   
         
   

PROPOSITION 1.  Qualifications of City Commissioners; Creation of Position of Vice-Mayor

   
         
   

Shall Section  1-4 of the Charter Laws of the City be amended to require a city commissioner to have been a qualified elector of the city for one year prior to qualification for election or appointment to the City Commission, to provide for the creation of the position of vice-mayor, to prescribe the duties of the mayor-commissioner, and to provide that in the event that a vacancy on the commission shall not be filled by the City Commission within sixty days, it shall be filled by the Governor, and providing the duties of the City Commission?

   
         
   

Therefore, anyone qualifying as a Commissioner for the City of St. Augustine Beach must meet the qualifications as stated above.

   
         
   

TOWN OF HASTINGS

   
   

The City Charter of the Town of Hastings requires any candidate to be a  resident and qualified elector of the Town of Hastings.  In order to run for office as a Councilperson, you MUST be a resident of the Town of Hastings.
